A wonderfully romantic antique gold pendant featuring two softly modelled hearts suspended beneath a tiny key, with a sparkling old cut diamond nestled between them.
The symbolism is unmistakably sentimental - a charming little “key to my heart” motif typical of late Victorian and Edwardian jewellery, when hearts, locks and keys were frequently used to represent love and devotion.
The two hearts test at approximately 14ct gold, while the key tests at approximately 16ct gold. We purchased the pendant in its present form, so its exact history is unknown, but the differing gold purities suggest that it may have been assembled or converted from earlier antique components at some point in its life. The bail is 18ct gold.
At the centre is an approximately 0.15ct old cut diamond, adding a lovely flash of antique sparkle. The softly worn surfaces, fine scratches and natural patina have been preserved rather than polished away, giving the piece all the character you would expect from an antique jewel.
Small but full of personality, it looks beautiful worn alone, clipped onto a dog clip or bolt ring, or layered amongst other antique charms and pendants.
