LUCILLE LONDON.png

A beautifully characterful antique tri-colour gold long chain, designed and assembled in our London workshop using authentic antique components spanning several periods, and finished with a bolt ring clasp and a removable T-bar pendant with swivel dog clip bail.

The chain showcases elegant curved white gold trombone links with distinctive spring / spiral centres, paired with rose gold knot links - elements believed to date to the late Victorian to Edwardian period (circa 1895–1910). These earlier links are celebrated for their sculptural forms and expressive mechanical detailing, hallmarks of fine antique chain craftsmanship from this era.

To create a wearable long chain with excellent balance and versatility, these earlier components have been thoughtfully combined with later antique oval links, likely from the early 20th century. The oval links display a beautifully warm palette, with tones ranging from soft yellow to gently rosy hues - possibly the result of an original rosy gold alloy with traces of faded gold gilding. Their warm undertones harmonise naturally with the white and rose gold elements, enhancing the chain’s rich tri-colour character.

This sensitive combination of components across eras reflects the way antique chains historically evolved over time - extended, adapted, and reconfigured as fashions and uses changed. The result is a cohesive and historically respectful design that preserves the integrity, charm, and craftsmanship of each individual element, while allowing the chain to be styled effortlessly for modern wear.

The chain is fitted with a 9ct gold bolt ring clasp measuring approximately 10mm in diameter, and includes a removable T-bar pendant suspended from a swivel dog clip bail. The tongue of the dog clip sits ever so slightly off-centre, but remains secure and springs closed as intended, with no impact on functionality or safety.

The T-bar is stamped ‘9.375’, alongside a Birmingham assay office mark and maker’s mark B&S. The terminal link bears a ‘9c’ tag and a date letter ‘G’ on each side, which may correspond to 1931 if relating to the Birmingham assay office; however, as no clear assay office stamp is present on this component, this cannot be stated definitively and the link may therefore be earlier.

With only minimal signs of wear, this chain remains in very good antique condition, retaining excellent presence, movement, and character.

A beautifully nuanced antique long chain, perfect worn alone, layered, or styled with additional antique pendants and charms.
